If you are fascinated by bonsai plants, then the Japanese maple bonsai tree is the perfect choice for you to start with. It is a beautiful colorful tree and even a beginner can grow it.

There are many varieties in this species but they are similar to the regular sized outdoor ones. They are all very colorful in spring and the leaves change their color in fall. They also shed their leaves as winter approaches and are dormant in winter. The Japanese maple bonsai tree is an easy one to care for. The trunk and branches change in color that ranges from different shades of red and green. The leaves are red in the summer months and become brighter as fall approaches.

Another popular species is the Bloodgood Japanese Maple. This tree has a lovely shape and reddish brown leaves which turn bright crimson in fall.

Some varieties of the Japanese maple can be kept outdoors on the patio. The Crimson Queen Maple is well suited for this. This is in reality a dwarf tree that grows to about ten feet. This species of maple if pruned properly also makes a nice indoor bonsai tree. It has a sweeping shape with long feathery dark red leaves, which turn to a deep red later in the fall.

The Japanese maple bonsai tree is the favorite amongst the majority on bonsai enthusiasts. There are however, other equally beautiful Maple species that one can change into a bonsai. These include the Sugar and Norway Maple Trees and the Red Sunset Maple

You can also pick up different species from exclusive nurseries or you can propagate one from a seedling. Make sure you educate yourself properly on how to care for the bonsai plants before you venture into this field. This way, you will not get frustrated. Before you begin, look at some Japanese maple bonsai trees. Get inspired. You may be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to grow one.
